Community Music

“Wake Up” is a song we didn’t know we needed.

The four of us (Joel Barnes, John-Paul Gentile, Lucas and Evelyn Cortazio) weren’t even scheduled to write together but happened to be in Atlanta one afternoon, and while we didn’t know what was coming, our good Father did. He gave us “Wake Up!”

What we initially had as a chorus became the verses and the song took shape in a beautiful and effortless way.

The Holy Spirit was so present and we couldn’t help but smile and be filled with gratitude through the whole process.

We wanted to write a song that would remind people of how loved we all are and of how good the Father is; an anthem that we could sing over ourselves in times of doubt and fear. “He is your home, you’ve never been alone.”

We wanted to write lyrics that remind us that in God there’s always abundance and never lack or scarcity.

“There’s bread instead of stones, in Him where you belong.”

We are all carriers of His image and oh, if we realized that and lived that out! “Wake up, open your eyes.”

Our prayer for you as you listen to this song is that you would step into the fullness of who the Father created you to be. In Him you have a home and in Him you always and forever belong!

Based out of Chicago, Community Music is the newest addition to a global church planting movement called NewThing started by COMMUNITY Christian Church with over 1,200 churches worldwide.
