Lakewood Music
Lakewood Music is a collective of worship leaders, musicians & songwriters from Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas. Our passion is to write songs which capture the sound of hope that resonates in every human heart. We believe you’ll enjoy listening to them & using them in your own church setting.
I still remember how Inhabit came together—it was one of those songs that just happened.
It was the end of a long writing day, and we were almost out of time when Alexander Pappas started humming a melody over a simple piano arpeggio. Someone hit record (thankfully), and within moments, the chorus just poured out.
When he sang, “Oh Holy Spirit, inhabit this place,” it got everyone’s attention. It was a simple phrase, but such a sincere desire that resonates in the heart of every believer—to be a place where the Holy Spirit continually dwells.
We’ve all been part of songs that take weeks to shape and refine, but every now and then, one comes together almost effortlessly. I wish there were a formula for those moments, but I think it’s just one of the beautiful mysteries of how God moves.
The word inhabit comes from Psalm 22:3, which says, “God inhabits the praises of His people.” That verse became the foundation of this song. We wanted to write something that simply welcomes His presence—a song that says, “Lord, You’re not just invited here; this is Your place.”
The opening line has always stood out to me:
“There’s no better place, no better time to respond with surrender.”
That lyric feels truer each time I hear it. Wherever I am, whatever I’m doing, and however I’m feeling, there’s really no better moment than right now to invite God in. It’s in the present moment that we meet with Him, that we experience His nearness. That’s where worship happens—right where we are.
Hearing this song sung by our church has been one of my favorite parts of the journey.
It’s awe-inspiring to stand in the room and hear thousands of voices declare, “Come like the wind, fall like the rain… we give You the room.” It brings to mind the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts, when the Spirit came like a mighty rushing wind, filling the believers in the upper room.
Our prayer is that Inhabit would create that same atmosphere wherever it’s sung—that it would help people make room for the presence of God and remind them that He truly does inhabit the praises of His people.
