It is truly a mix of all of those seasons. You can’t have the good without the bad.
That’s part of the sentiment of these prayers as a whole creative collection. You can’t have the God of the Mountain without also having the God of the Valley. He is present in all of it. He isn’t circumstantial and our response to Him in worship shouldn’t be either.
These songs have been so helpful to give language to that in our church and we pray the same for the Church at large. We don’t want to wait to worship God when we get to a destination in life, we want to be intentional to worship Him all along the journey. These songs help us do that.
What are some moments in scripture you all cling to the most when you need to remember that throughout the peaks and valleys of life, God is constant, faithful and good?
There are so many! A few scriptures that have been helpful are:
'I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.' - Psalms 34:4-10
Sometimes, in order to move forward in faith, we have to remember how God has been good before. That remembrance informs our direction and strength of faith in whatever lies ahead. The promise of this passage is so comforting and inspiring.
'Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.' - Lamentations 3:21-26
He is unchanging by the circumstances and by the sunrise or sunset of a day. He is our portion in the seasons of little, but He is also our portion in the seasons of much. Our dependence is the catalyst for our worship.
'So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.' - Hebrews 13:6-8
“Come Have Your Way” is a song about surrendering to the Holy Spirit. What does that look in the day-to-day? What are some practices that help you all surrender and submit to His provision?
Surrendering to the Holy Spirit in the day to day is more “real” than we may think. It looks like relationship.
Starting your day with time in the Word or prayer before ever picking up your phone. Obedience to time with the Lord and not allowing the urgency of the day to fool you into thinking that urgency is what is most important.
It’s the Holy Spirit that can guide our thoughts in discernment and wisdom, but we must be intentional to be with Him. To ask Him what He wants. How many times have we made decisions based on our own wisdom or based on urgency and then asked God to bless it later?
How would those decisions be different if we would first pause, ask the Holy Spirit to guide us, listen and then move? A lesson that we still have to learn daily! Another way is through Godly community. To have people in our lives, who walk in step with the Holy Spirit and we can bounce things off of. The Holy Spirit communicates directly with us, but He also speaks to us through community. So much fruit comes out of the overflow of Godly community in our lives.
“Enough” is a declarative moment on the record - one of contentment and trust in the goodness of God. How do we discern between the aspects of our life we need to grow in contentment with, and the aspects that need growth and change?
This song was a WRESTLE. It’s not an easy thing to sing. Because contentment doesn’t mean complacency. It doesn’t mean we stop growing, stop dreaming, or stop asking God to change things that are broken. It means those things no longer determine whether or not God is good. Or whether or not He is enough.
The truth is, because of the saving work of Jesus, we already have what matters most. And so many of the other things we spend our lives chasing are auxiliary to the primary mission: to know Jesus and make Him known. To love God with everything we have and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
But the struggle can blind us. The want for something more can distract us. The desire for what could be can keep us from seeing what God is doing in what is right in front of us.
So maybe part of the discernment is asking: Is this desire drawing me toward faithfulness, or is it keeping me from recognizing God’s faithfulness?
We can absolutely long for things to change. In fact, Scripture gives us a vision of a day when everything will change—Jesus will return, sin and pain and death will be no more, and we will experience the fullness of who He created us to be and the world as He intended it to be. We live in light of that coming day. We pray for His Kingdom to come. We ask Him to change us and to change what is broken around us.
But we also ask Him to open our eyes to see that He is at work even now. No matter the season. No matter the circumstance. There may still be things we want. There may still be things that need to change. There may still be things we’re asking God for. But in Jesus, here and now, we have enough.
It’s enough, because He’s enough.

The song “Nothing But Good” has been resonating in our church for over a year now.
The prayer is one of dependence on God, no matter the season. His goodness and His faithfulness is what we cling to. To sing “God, I will trust in Your name forever” is something healthy for our hearts no matter what is going on in life. We love to lead this song and pray it’s a blessing the Church at large as well.
