Rooted in the idea of posterity and inspired by Psalm 22, SHILOH from DOE is a worship project born from the vision that every generation would know and worship the name of the Lord. Bringing together voices across ages, cultures, and church backgrounds, the album invites the Church to sing as one in a shared declaration of God's faithfulness.
We are excited to resource the Church with your new album, SHILOH! Tell us the backstory of centering this worship project around Psalm 22.
Psalm 22:27-31 states the following:
“All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord,
And all the families of the nations will bow down and worship before You,
For the kingship and the kingdom are the Lord’s
And He rules over the nations.
All the prosperous of the earth will eat and worship;
All those who go down to the dust (the dead) will bow before Him,
Even he who cannot keep his soul alive.
Posterity will serve Him;
They will tell of the Lord to the next generation
They will come and declare His righteousness
To a people yet to be born—that He has done it [and that it is finished].
And I know this is kind of long, but I love these verses because they speak to the power of generational ”eternal” wealth.
In a world and society where we’re all trying to figure out what we can pass down to our posterity, there must be an understanding and a desire to pass down the most important thing, and that is a revelation of Jesus.
“Know Your Name” is a powerful opener about everyone encountering the name of Jesus. The track features a live choir. Tell us about the recording process for this one!
The recording process for this was a lot of fun!
We actually finished the song during pre-production in the studio. I didn't have a bridge, and either on the way to the studio, or while there the bridge came, and it seems to fit right into the song. I also feel like singing this song with my family as the background singers made this entire recording an unforgettable moment and experience as well!!
“Bringing together voices across ages, cultures, and church backgrounds, the album invites the Church to sing as one in a shared declaration of God's faithfulness.” Why was it important for you to include multi-cultural, multi-denominational, and multi-generational voices in these songs?
My conviction with this album was to be my truest genuine self!
And this is what my childhood sounded like. It was multi-generational, multi-denominational, and even multi-lingual. Not JUST multi-cultural. I’m so thankful and blessed to have been a witness to the power of the Gospel through music and its ability to translate through many different avenues.
The gospel has the power to level what some would call a barrier or a wall and turn it into a bridge. I think music helps with that too. That being said, I see this album as a reminder for the Church.
Tell us about collaborating with Kim Jones on “Mighty Long Way.” This song has such a rich feel, blending traditional and modern gospel elements.
This is actually one of my favorite tracks on the album.
What people may not realize is that my mom was not supposed to have children, so every time we’re on stage together it’s a display of God’s faithfulness. Also, to take it even further, I was pregnant during this live recording, so people are actually watching 3 generations declare the faithfulness and power of God!
“Shiloh” is the upbeat title track featuring Israel Houghton. Can you share with our community the Biblical and prophetic meaning of the city of Shiloh?
So, the thing I LOVE about Shiloh, is that the song itself is the broader, fuller meaning of the word, Shiloh. Shiloh actually points to the return of the Messiah, the Kingdom of God being established in the earth and the promise of the peaceful one.
