Jesse Phillips (from Real Fun Records)

Real Fun Records‍ ‍envisions a future where artist empowerment, fair practices for musicians, and an emphasis on community support are the pillars of a thriving music industry.

Tell us a little about your ministry or company and what should people know about you personally?

Chris McClarney and I, Jesse Phillips, started Real Fun Records out of a desire to see our friends win as the songs they work on win. We also wanted a new model for artists to work with instead of the “advance/loan” in order to make music.

What’s different about your company, when compared to others in this space?

We have friends at other labels and we don’t view ourselves as competitors, just an alternative to the traditional label model. We love co-creating music with artists and musicians and sharing the win versus just paying for others to create it and having oversight.

What recent project or release are you most proud of?

We’re really proud of all the music we’ve put out! Genuinely feels like each one has had it’s share of ups and downs in the creation and distribution process, but so proud of all of it. So excited for the upcoming Daniel Doss and Good Things Collective songs we have in the hopper!

The church music world is a constantly changing space. What has been a new thing that you as a company have been focusing on lately that is helping you in your world?

We’ve really been digging into local churches to help us write and create music for their congregations. Local church worship leaders are often the ones on the front lines experiencing that change firsthand and have been such a blessing to have at our writing camps!

What’s important to you when you consider how you best serve your artists & creatives?

Relationships are what we’re always trying to build as we serve our crew. Getting to know people helps us understand needs in our community and also how to better serve them.

Favorite app, podcast or book?

It’s a few years old, but Platform Revolution was a book that’s informed some of our ideas when it comes to business. And A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 has been brought up at our bible study multiple times!
