Poets and Prophets

Poets & Prophets is a collective of songwriters in the Contemporary Christian Music world, united by a shared passion to create more than just songs — to create moments of encounter. The band brings together Rebekah White Williams, Josh Farro, Mitch Wong, and Tommy Iceland — four voices that have already shaped the landscape of modern worship and CCM.

Their debut single, “Make Room” is a powerful introduction to the heart of Poets & Prophets. Both intimate and bold, the song invites listeners to clear away distractions and create space for God’s presence to dwell. It sets the tone for the group’s mission: to craft music that is as beautiful as it is challenging, rooted in scripture and overflowing with Spirit.

With lyrics rooted in truth and melodies shaped by some of the industry’s finest, Poets & Prophets exists not to entertain, but to awaken. Their music is an invitation to experience both the beauty and the boldness of God’s presence.

We are excited to share more resources from Poet and Prophets with worship leaders! Tell us more about the backstory behind the name you all chose for this group, and how the role of both a poet and a prophet influence the music you create.

Mitch:  Tommy originally had the idea for our name “Poets and Prophets,”  being a collective of songwriters that seek after the heart of God for the body of Christ.

The Bible is full of both poetry and prophecy, and we want our songs to display the beauty of God through poetry but also the challenge of God through prophetic lyrics that lead us to become more like Jesus.

As a band we want to make room for the Lord to challenge us in our worship and writing. He truly is worth it.

Tell us about the moment or moment(s) that led to this group forming officially.

Rebekah: Tommy, Mitch and I were a part of a writer’s round for the GMA’s and through that moment of sharing songs and stories, I knew I needed to introduce them to my friend Josh.

Josh and I had been writing together frequently, and Tommy and Mitch had a deep history of writing together as well.  I personally had only written with Tommy and Mitch both once, so this whole thing was a God set up.  It took us 3 months to find a date on all of our calendars that we were all available for, but  I  believe the Lord orchestrated our first write as a band.  His presence was tangible in the room, and after we finished writing just kept worshipping, and our first voice memo was super long.

The rest is history.  We kept writing and worshipping together, so when Tommy came to us with the idea about making it official, as a band, it was just natural.  We are just 4 friends that love to worship Jesus, and write together about our first love, Jesus.

The four of you — Rebekah White Williams, Josh Farro, Mitch Wong, and Tommy Iceland — each bring a significant individual legacy to this collective. Between you all, you’ve written songs like “Trust In God,” “The Joy,” “Honey In The Rock,” and so many more. How did you all decide on “Make Room” as your lead single for this year (this one written by Rebekah and Josh).

Josh: Originally James Rueger came to us with the idea of “Make Room” being our first single as a band. Make Room has been a such special song to us and to see how God has used it within the church has been so humbling. Before the song write began we prayed and worshipped with our friends Lucas and Evelyn and the Holy Spirit showed up.

The song came together so quickly and I believe that’s because every heart in the room was open to simply sitting in the presence of God first. Sure we had pieces of it before, but we would have never been able to put all them together if we would have jumped into the process with out taking time to seek God first.  Mitch and Tommy were in agreement that Make Room would be a great first single for us so we went with it.

"Make Room" is the kind of worship song that is both intimate and bold. Can you tell us more about the original backstory for the song, and what you hope a fresh version will bring listeners and worship leaders this year?

Rebekah:  The Lord had dropped that chorus in my heart the day before, and I quickly recorded it on my phone but knew it was for later.  When I walked into the studio the next day Josh was playing that iconic piano part, and I knew the chorus went perfectly with it.  Before we even started writing, we worshipped and prayed, and then began to write.

The song is a song of surrender, a cry to get out of the way and give God the space to move how He wants.

Josh:  I feel like we had been trying to write that song for some time. Rebekah and I had written other songs with similar themes because it was something God was doing in both of us individually but when we got in the room with Lucas and Evelyn it was the perfect moment to write Make Room.  When we put the pieces together God had given us the rest of it just came together.

Rebekah:  Yes, exactly.  I grew up in a conservative church where the Bible was known well, but there wasn’t so much room made for the Holy Spirit to move freely.

When I experienced the Holy Spirit in such a way that it was undeniable, I could never go back.

I never again wanted to put God in a box, or expect Him to move in a way I expected, I always wanted to surrender my agenda to Him.

Josh: His way is better, and that is exactly what the song is about.

What does each member bring uniquely to the table? How do your difference gifting and approaches to songwriting serve the group as a whole?

Tommy:  First and foremost we just love writing and worshipping together as friends.  We really value and honor the gifts God has given us individually and uniquely, and we celebrate that in each other in the writing process.  Each of us bring ideas, but at times the Holy Spirit truly breathes on a moment, or a spontaneous worship moment, or one of us, and we are all willing to just follow the Holy Spirit through anything.

When we do that, we can bring the best of ourselves to the group, and Jesus is glorified.

What is the difference between entertaining people with music and awakening people to truth and light with music?

Mitch: Entertaining has never been our purpose.

We want to keep the main thing the main thing. Jesus is the center, and when He stays the center, people are truly changed as they worship. It also makes writing songs so much easier because the focus in not on us but entirely on Jesus, His faithfulness and the hope we find in Him. We have always believed that if we can just direct people’s eyes to Jesus, He is faithful to do all the changing and awakening that we need.

Tell us what’s coming next for Poet and Prophets in 2026!

Tommy: We are so open handed with what’s next.  We are looking forward to releasing the songs the Lord has given us these last few years, and the partnership with FairTrade has been such blessing.

We get to dream with God together.

We are looking forward to collaborating with some of our friends.  So what I do know is next is more music, more worship, more writing, and glorifying Jesus through writing.
